Your three options
Hiring a cleaner in Andorra comes down to who carries the paperwork and who answers if something goes wrong.
- Employ someone yourself. The person works for you. You are the employer, with everything that implies.
- Hire a self-employed cleaner. The person has their own business and invoices you. They handle their own registration.
- Hire a cleaning company. The company sends the person, replaces them when they are away and answers for the service.
None of them is wrong. What gets expensive is choosing one without knowing the obligations that come with it.
What it really costs per hour
With a company, you pay one invoice, and the hourly rate already covers CASS-registered staff, work-risk cover and a liability policy. These are the Sojiya rates.
| Service | Price (excl. IGI) |
|---|---|
| Regular cleaning | from €16.99/h (excl. IGI) |
| One-off cleaning | €38.27/h (excl. IGI) |
| Key custody | +€0.09/h (excl. IGI) |
If you employ someone yourself, the hourly wage is only part of the cost. Social security contributions are paid on top, and you cover the days when the person is ill or on holiday. Check current amounts with the CASS or the Govern d'Andorra before you agree a wage. We do not quote them here because they change.
You can see the full detail in our hourly rates.
Employing someone yourself: CASS and contract
If you hire a housekeeper directly, you become the employer. That means doing things in order. Besides pay, contributions and paperwork, you pay for paid holidays and public holidays (Llei 31/2018, de relacions laborals) and arrange cover when the person is away or on sick leave.
- Check they can work in Andorra. Ask the Govern d'Andorra what the person needs before they start.
- Register them with the CASS. Registration and contributions are your responsibility as the employer. Ask the CASS what applies to household staff.
- Sign a written contract. Hours, tasks, pay, holidays and how the arrangement ends. The clearer it is, the fewer arguments later.
- Think about accidents. A fall on your stairs or a cut in your kitchen happens in your home. Find out what your own insurance covers and what it does not.
If your housekeeper is ill or on holiday, your home stays uncleaned. Finding a replacement is also your job.
A self-employed cleaner is different. They invoice you and look after their own registration. Ask for three things: an invoice for every visit, liability insurance for any damage, and a clear answer on what happens when they cannot come.
When a cleaning company is simpler
With a company you only pay an invoice. The company hires, registers, insures, organises the schedule and covers absences. And if you are the one looking for cleaning work, the company route is open to you as well. For someone who has just moved to Andorra and does not know the procedures yet, it is usually the route with the least effort.
At Sojiya, staff are registered with the CASS and covered by a liability policy. We work with the Japanese 5S method: every home has its own order, products and rhythm, and the person who comes follows it the same way each time. If the person is away, Sojiya can assign someone else.
If you want someone steady for your home, see our weekly house cleaning. You can also read Sojiya and how we work.
Questions to ask before you hire
Whoever you choose, ask these questions first. You are handing over your keys.
- Who exactly is coming? Get the name, and whether it will always be the same person.
- Are they registered and insured? Ask for confirmation in writing.
- Who pays if something breaks? The insurance must be in the name of whoever provides the service.
- Where is the key kept? And what happens to it if you end the service.
- What if they cannot come? How you are told and who replaces them.
- What does each visit include? A clear task list avoids misunderstandings on day one.
Be at home for the first visit. Show where things are, which products to use and what not to touch. That hour saves a lot of surprises later.
Word of mouth from neighbours or colleagues works, but it gives you an opinion, not guarantees. Look at what you can check: is there an invoice, is there insurance, do they answer in writing, do they give a clear price before starting? Be wary of anyone who will not put anything in writing.
If you would rather not deal with contracts, registrations and replacements, ask Sojiya for a quote through the contact form. It takes two minutes, and we reply in writing with the price.
