In Pas de la Casa the shop window does the selling. It is the border village, the only road entrance to Andorra from France, and most customers drive down from there to buy perfume, electronics, technical clothing, alcohol or tobacco. People walk in all day, with queues at the border late in the evening.

Winter is the problem. At around 2,080 metres snow stays on the ground for long spells, and the salt spread on the street splashes the glass outside and comes in on boots. The result is white tide marks along the bottom of the window, handprints on the door and a grey floor at the entrance.

Many flats in Pas de la Casa are let to skiers heading for the Grandvalira slopes. Between one stay and the next there are only a few hours, and the flat has to be ready: wet boots in the hallway, gloves drying on the radiator, grit and salt on the floor.

At each changeover we clean the kitchen and bathroom, change the bed linen if you leave it ready, mop the floors and check that the hallway is dry. Down in the valley the parish is different. Encamp, Les Bons, Vila, Tremat and Mosquera are residential, with families living here all year round and apartment blocks with shared entrances and stairs. According to the Departament d'Estadística, Encamp gained 366 residents during 2025, so more households share the same common areas.

The usual request here is house cleaning every week or every two weeks, with the same person and the same routine. In winter, mud and snow come in through the front door, so entrances and floors need extra attention. A shop cannot be cleaned with customers inside. In Pas de la Casa we therefore work before opening or after closing, and in rental flats between check-out and check-in.
